Ready to make some awesome mats out of recycled plastic bags with your group? Members of the ArchIndy Creation Care Commission are available to travel to locations around Indiana (or neighboring states within a 2-3 hour drive of Indianapolis) to lead plarning events or teaching workshops.
Plarn mat crocheting is a great service project that joins care for our earth with service of people experiencing homelessness. The care for our earth comes from the fact that it uses recycled plastic grocery bags gathered from your community as the material to create “plarn” (plastic yarn).
Completed plastic mats can be donated to a local ministry or nonprofit that does outreach to our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness.
In Indianapolis, we suggest contacting the Pour House to donate your completed mats.
Materials and preparation for plarning are easy to collect and FREE (other than a couple of standard crochet hooks).
