Catholic leaders from around the country (including members of the ArchIndy Creation Care Commission) have been busy these past months in a new working group.
One of the first projects of the group was a challenge that dioceses across the country are facing – how to connect with all our Catholic sisters and brothers, regardless of their political persuasions to encourage and support Catholics and others to vote for an integral and consistent ethic of life, including for the unborn, for generations to come.
The group has published a set of 3 cards, which work together as a coherent and integral whole. The cover of the cards with Our Lady of Le Puy (the first apparition of Mary after the Assumption), communicates the primary message: Respect Life — Respect That Which Sustains Life — Care for Our Common Home.
Card number one gives the scriptural and ecclesiastical underpinnings why caring for our common home is an essential mandate of the Church.
Card number two links caring for our common home to the USCCB’s “Seven Themes of Catholic Social Teaching,” thus showing that caring for our common home is an integral ethic of life.
Card number three specifically addresses climate change and the deleterious affect it will have on life on our planet.
