Why is caring for creation important?

    • From the Old and New Testaments Christianity has included, if not emphasized, our vocation to care for creation and for ‘the least of these’.
    • Our relationship with Christ helps us understand our relationships with one another and with creation.
    • Sustainable living changes are charitable works which inspire us to an interior conversion  that will extend outward to continued advocacy and justice.

    Planting trees with KIB

Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB) partners with faith communities to plant native trees in and around faith communities and/or their neighborhoods and schools. KIB will plant on site as well as in the area within a .2-mile radius of the church property.

This is a great opportunity to work with neighbors and other houses of worship nearby to plant trees in a common mission of caring for creation – and each other.

    KIB will provide

    • Free large native trees (minimum 12 trees per community)
    • Watering, pruning and mulching for 3 years
    • Necessary permits and marking of underground utilities
    • Training and leading volunteers on planting day, led by KIB’s staff arborists
    • Ideas for community engagement

    Congregations are expected to

    • Maintain the trees after the first 3 years
    • Provide a small number of volunteers (if able) to help plant the trees
    • Consult with KIB about tree species and locations

Trees are available on a first come basis and plantings are done in both spring and fall. Get started by filing out the application on the KIB website – kibi.org/trees.

    2020 Extravaganza Wrap up

We love tree planting not just for the reduction of carbon dioxide in the air, but the benefits of trees extending from creating spaces of peace and beauty in our communities to the attraction of wildlife! View descriptions and specs for the trees and wildflowers distributed during the 2020 Extravaganza. Thank you to all who participated!
